Firestar is available as a .JAR file which runs on any Java-compatible computer. We also have installers for Windows and Linux to add the tool to your Start Menu.
If you want the most features, you should grab the Nightly version, which is always based off our newest source code.
Instructions for setting up and using Firestar can be found on it's Gitea Wiki.
There, you will find guides on how to install the required kernel modules to your console, how to dump your games for patching, and how to make mods on your own.
If you get stuck, our friends over at the AGRF Discord Server may be able to help you.
Firestar is free for everyone to use and provided out of passion for our community. You can give back to help keep our servers running and keep our future projects free by donating on PayPal. We sincerely thank you for your support.
Firestar is a desktop program that helps organize and manage mods for the game WipEout 2048 on a connected Playstation Vita or PS TV game system. It automates many of Sony's developer tools used to alter the game files and it makes setting up new mods much more convenient than it would be installing them by hand.
Firestar is developed by members of the indie game studio Canithesis Interactive, in collaboration with the Anti-Gravity Racing Foundation, a fanclub dedicated to the WipEout series.
Firestar is free and open source software (free as in "freedom" or libre, but also as in "free beer" or gratis) under the GNU GPL version 3. However, it does depend on separate proprietary components from Sony Computer Entertainment. In future versions we will strip these out with our own replacements, but until then, Firestar is really only half-free. Still, the source code is public and you can do just about anything with it as long as your copy also has the GPL v3. And please do send us your improvements, we will implement them if we can!
Yes, we'd appreciate it! Go right ahead, no permission from us needed. Just please make sure to link to this web page when directing people to download the software.
Soon™. If it uses PSARCs, we can probably do it. Lots of games do, even on PC (for example, Brink, which is rather strangely an idTech game) So your Ratchet & Clank, All Stars BR, Uncharted and such can in theory work with Firestar, we just have not programmed any way to seamlessly do this yet. But we'll let you know when we do!
Kinda. We do all of our testing on Linux, then do a second quality assurance pass on a Windows virtual machine. We have no Apple computers to test on and are not interested in acquiring any. But you can run Firestar on a Mac and it will probably work just fine. If it doesn't, shoot us a bug report.
VitaDB only allows developers to submit works that they fully own and that do not rely on third-party proprietary components. Since Firestar currently uses the official PS Vita SDK under the hood (installed separately at runtime), it is technically banned even though Firestar itself is free and not restricted by US copyright law. Fortunately this should change as soon as we finish our replacement tools.
Maybe. It's not really a priority but we have thought about it.
The name "Firestar" is a reference to a secret level in the first WipEout game from 1995. We also name our update versions after various pilots in the lore, so the first builds are named after Natasha Belmondo, then the releases are named after John Dekka, then Arian Tetsuo, and so on.
